I bought my Canon 20D back in 2004 shortly after its release. That same weekend was a flower show held by the Long Island Dahlia Society. These photos are still some of my favorites. I have been photographing dahlias ever since.
Dahlias come in almost every possible size, shape and color. They range from small golf-ball size pompoms to 18″ blooms. All of the above flowers are dahlias.
September and October are peak times for Dahlias on Long Island. In fact, Dahlias are so popular that there are two highly competitive clubs on Long Island which hold competitions during this time. These events are perfect to practice indoor photography with award-winning subjects.
Upcoming Events:
- Mid Island Dahlia Society – Sept. 25th & 26th
- Long Island Dahlia Society – Oct. 3rd & 4th
Tomorrow, I will discuss what I used to photograph the above flowers.
Wonderful, i like dahlias so much.
It’s a great time of the year. Hope to take some great dalhia photos at today’s show!
