I had a great time reviewing the new Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens. It’s the fast f/1.4 aperture that makes this lens special. It will make any distant background blur into colors and make the subject really pop. Here are some more comparison photos showing what a change in aperture can accomplish. (See also, my comparison photos of the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 versus the Canon 85mm f/1.2 L.)
Since the Sigma is an 85mm, on a crop sensor camera like the Canon 7D, this lens becomes an effective telephoto lens equal to 136mm. The following two photos are examples capturing an entire subject with great sharpness and color.
The new Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM is available in mounts for Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Sony/Minolta and Pentax for $899.
