Since 1964, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has celebrated the Holiday Season with their annual Christmas Tree and Neapolitan Baroque Creche Ornaments. The collection was started by Loretta Hines Howard in 1925 and was donated to the Museum by the Howard family. Generations of the Howard family are still involved in expanding the collection. The display in the Medieval Sculpture Hall includes an elaborate Nativity, the procession of the Magi, a collection of townspeople and a variety of animals. The traditional Neapolitan display is topped by 50 angels, numerous cherubs and candle-stick lights decorating the 20-foot blue spruce. All of the baroque creche ornaments were hand sculptured with many original pieces crafted by Giuseppe Sammartino and his pupils Salvatore di Franco, Giuseppe Gori and Angelo Viva.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art will have a dramatic lighting ceremony from November 30th through January 2nd at the following times:

The Museum will be open for a special Holiday Monday on December 27, 2010 with a lighting ceremony at 4:30 PM. Also, as part of the Christmas celebration, the Museum will hold several concerts in the Medieval Sculpture Hall in front of the tree. Please check their calendar for additional information.
The Neapolitan Baroque Creche is both inspirational and breath-taking as a centerpiece in the vast Medieval Sculpture Hall. If you are in New York City for the Holiday Season, you must put the Christmas Tree at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on your sightseeing list.

This is my most complex 360 panorama to-date. In order to capture such a large space with great detail, I shot over 70 photos and stitched them together.
Phew … this is what we can call a Pano VVN (very very nice)! Even all the folks in shot look good.
