NY Fashion Week – Spring 2013 with the Sony RX100

I decided to test the Sony RX100 at Fashion Week in NYC this week. Shooting Raw captures plenty of detail and the beta Lightroom 4.2 RC handles these files very well. Low-light and night does become a challenge for the camera to handle especially at 1600ISO and 3200ISO. But, that 20meg sensor captures plenty of data for Lightroom to process and you can remove as much digital noise as necessary while still keeping details. Take a look at my batch of photos below.

Side NoteThere is a big difference in the way celebrities responds to a point-n-shoot and a DSLR. At an event like Fashion Week, someone holding a DSLR like the Canon 7D is automatically associated with the “paparazzi” while someone holding a P-N-S like the Sony RX100 is considered a “fan”. For example, Kimora Lee Simmons posed for anyone with a camera. But, Alexa Chung told the Press, “No Photos please!” as she was walking out. Still, she did still stop for a few photos with fans. Some celebrities are much more accommodating for fans. Something to consider.
