Each Spring, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute debuts a new exhibit. This year, it is Manus X Machina – Fashion in an Age of Technology. Many of the couture elite are represented in the collection – Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Iris van Herpen, Balenciaga, Raf Simons, Issey Miyake, and Christopher Kane. The pieces are varied; some are beautiful even though they incorporate non-traditional materials and machined-techniques. Others, looks like rejects from a B-rated 60’s sci-fi movie. Overall, the exhibit is interesting, especially the 3D printed pieces. Take a look at the photos below and in the next post. However, it lacks the excitement of last year’s exhibit – China: Through the Looking Glass.
